About Our Services
Friends of Yates, Inc. is a community based agency with a full continuum of services including domestic violence prevention and intervention programming, community response to crime, youth development, and many other supportive services to thousands of persons throughout the community each year. Our focus and service programs have allowed us to meet the needs of our community at a variety of different levels.
Though the cause may be domestic violence and/or poverty; we are helping individuals to rebuild their integrity, reclaim their independence, and foster an empowered level of self-esteem. Emergency Shelter
In an emergency, survivors and their families turn to us for help—and we stand ready to provide shelter at an confidential location and support—free of charge. The Della Gill/Joyce H. Williams Center helps domestic violence survivors by providing safe shelter, meals, essential personal care items, and emotional support in addition to programs and advocacy services. Staff often meet one-on-one with survivors to develop individual safety plans and identify available resources to help survivors to become self-sufficient and economically independent.

Strengths-Based Case Management
Each survivor is offered individual time with a case manager who partners with the survivor in building a violence free life. The case manager uses a strength-based assessment to set personalized goals with each participant and help to reach thier goals.
Court Advocacy
Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming for survivors who have undergone a great deal of physical & emotional trauma. We are available to help by accompanying clients to court, helping them to complete paperwork for Temporary Protective Orders, or following up with them until the process is complete.
Transitional Housing
The Transitional Housing Program provides support and therapeutic services to families residing in the Della Gill/Joyce H. Williams Center for up to 24 months. This program utilizes the core values of strength based case management to assist survivors in becoming self-sustaining. No matter what their situation, our case managers help them see past their crisis and embrace their future, a future that is violence free.
Support Groups and Individual Counseling
Finding strength among others who have been on a similar journey is often a great tool for victims to begin rebuilding their lives. Support groups are available for free to victims of domestic violence. Individual counseling is also available for those who decide to enter into shelter.
Economic Advocacy
Finding suitable employment can be a challenge for anyone, we hope to alleviate some of the stress with finding employment. Survivors can get help with updating a resume, practicing interview skills in mock interview, and assistance with filling out job applications. As well as assistance with completing high school or obtaining a GED or getting into a post-secondary program.
Child Care Advocacy
We provide services to child victims while their parent attends scheduled appointments, support groups and job search activites.
