As we step into Black History Month, we recognize the profound significance of this time—not just as a moment of reflection, but as an affirmation of our mission, our roots, and the resilient spirit of the Black women we serve.
Our agency was built and founded by Black women, driven by the urgent need to support Black female survivors of domestic violence—women who have too often been overlooked, unheard, and unprotected. Our very existence is a testament to the strength, courage, and perseverance of Black women throughout history. From Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, who fought for freedom, to modern-day advocates breaking cycles of violence and systemic oppression, Black women have always been at the forefront of change, resilience, and survival.
Black History Month is not just about honoring the past; it is about recognizing the ongoing struggles and victories of Black women today. Domestic violence in Black communities is deeply intertwined with historical inequities—racism, economic disparities, and systemic neglect. By celebrating Black history, we uplift the voices of the survivors we serve, affirming that they are not alone, that they are seen, and that their stories matter.
This month, let us celebrate our heritage, our resilience, and the power of our community. Let us continue our work with the knowledge that we are part of a long and unbreakable legacy of Black women who have fought for justice, healing, and liberation.
